我叫曹璞，我现在是在后海大鲨鱼乐队，弹吉他，弹弦子的，我们乐队十几年了。（谦虚旅社）（北京 大栅栏）。
I majored in architecture for my undergraduate degree, and I went to graduate school for architecture. Modest Hostel is a project inside a courtyard, whose walls are movable. The public space in the yard is very limited. Our project aims giving part of the public space back to the courtyard.
我其实是大学本科学建筑的，包括最后读研也是学的建筑，谦虚旅社项目是在一个杂院里面做一个设计，它那个墙是可以移的，大杂院里面公共空间越来越少，我们就是希望谦虚旅社的入驻，能够还给大杂院里头一块小的公共面积。
Modest Hostel is a proposition brought by Dashila Pilot Program.The project was about taking advantage of this empty room in the alley. Compared with a store or a restaurant, the hostel keeps how the courtyard was like the most. The residents here tend to be relatively elderly people, so we tried to avoid disturbing their life and bringing new people in; we decided to do the hostel project, and hope it could bring some new energy to the courtyard.
谦虚旅社项目实际上是一个命题作文，时间大概实在2014年，它有一个叫大栅栏领航员计划找到我。我们要去研究怎么样去利用这个胡同里的这个空的房子，旅社这个空间我们当时想的是，和杂院这个居住（功能）最近，最主要的功能还是人住，比如说我要开一个商店或者开一个饭馆，那进来的人员就比较杂了，就可能对居民的影响就更大了，我们同时也考虑到，杂院里的老龄化比较多，我们引入青年的这个居住，会不会能给杂院再带来生气。
The hostel is behind this； it is actually very small, and this model is only 11 square meters. You can push this wall in. For example, when you sleep at night, you can compress the space to the minimum. Because you might only need a bed at night. In this way, you can give 4.5 square meters back to the yard. You can drink tea or play chess here. There are three single beds there, and a ladder leading up to the top. There is a relatively big bed on the top. Also, we have a desk, luggage rack and storage room.We have a urinal, and a showerhead here.
旅社就是后面这个,它其实很小，这个样板间只有11平米，它外面是有一个结构，整个这面墙都可以推进去，比如在你入住的时候，你可以把自己的空间压缩，压缩到极小，因为晚上睡觉基本上一张床就够了，它在退进去之后，外面能退出一个4.5平米的小面积给到院子，无论是喝茶，下棋什么的，这里面一共有三张床，然后都是单人床，有一部梯子可以上到最上面，还有一个稍微大一点的床铺，然后有一个写字台，相应的配了行李架，然后储藏的一些空间。配备了一个只能小便的卫生间，然后可以淋浴。
As soon as it was finished, I moved here to live. I remember that was during the winter time, I slept in all the beds. It is comfortable to live here in the summer time. It is not hot even without the AC on, because its walls are thick. We also added a layer of thermal insulation. A lot of people love to live all the way to the top. So the feedbacks for the comfort evaluation are ok.
刚完工的时候我就开始在这里住了，但是是那个冬天，我记得特别清楚,我换着床睡，每个床都睡一遍，夏天的时候在这里比较舒适，不开空调也比较凉快，因为它的墙比较厚，我们在里面又做了一个内保温，他们有很多人喜欢睡在上边，最上边的那个，所以舒适度到现在评测都还OK,还挺好。
(Tester, Diudiu)I moved in the night of June 24 or 25 last year. The old alley environment is very different from urban buildings where most young people live. There are a lot of workers, riding bikes in the morning time. At night, there are wild cats meowing. But the voices make me feel at ease.
（试住体验者 丢丢）我应该是差不多去年6月24号到25号，那天晚上入住的，唯一不同的可能就是，周遭它会有很多老胡同的环境，跟我们现在都市高楼林立的环境中活动的年轻人，可能是有一些差别的，早晨会有一些可能务工的人，他们的车叮铃哐啷过去，晚上会有野猫在那叫，但是这些很生活化的声音让我觉得特别踏实。
Many families live here, and all courtyards are expanding and filled with people. We shouldn't take up their space, and interfere their life. So we choose to compress our space. We can give the space back to the yard, and be modest; it is how we got the name.
大杂院发展到现在，它都是一个院子里有好多好多的人家，然后，大家不言而喻都在往外扩张，院子里渐渐的基本上都满了，我们进来就不要再扩张了，我觉得设计是需要退后的，我们做的这个事，首先对居民是一种打扰，所以我们就采取了这么一个方式，压缩我们自己的室内空间，把一个室外空间能够临时给到院子用，谦虚，也是因为这个而得名的。
